MP3 Support

To ensure the best AOL audience compatibility, we recommend that you use only RealVideo G2 with SVT (aka Real 7) for video and only RealAudio G2 for audio. The new AOL 7.0 supports the latest Video and Audio codecs for RealPlayer 8, so as the percentage of AOL 7.0 users grows, we will eventually migrate all content to the latest Real codecs

All of the file types listed below are supported by the AOL Media Player. The last three columns indicate which player component inside of the AOL Media Player is actually used or at least capable to play back that file type.

**Support for streaming and downloaded Windows Media Audio files will be provided via the Windows Media Player playback functionality ONLY WHEN THE LAYER OR PLAYBACK FUNCTIONALITY IS ALREADY RESIDENT ON THE USERS MACHINE (i.e. AOL does —t install this on a members machine.) The user must be running WMP 7.0 (or above) in order to invoke this functionality. Operating systems that have native support for this functionality are Windows 98 SE, Windows ME, 2000 and XP. A user of standard Windows 98 will also have this support if they independently chose to download a Windows Media Player.

*Notes:
1. When the media format is supported by both WinAmp and RealPlayer, WinAmp shall be the default player.

2. While Real is capable of playing Windows Media formats, it requires the Auto Update functionality in the Real Player for this player to be used. Auto Update is —t available to AOL Members for Real 8.

AOL Media Player's Supported Plugins

Currently the AOL Media Player Supports the following plugins:

Real Player Video/Audio 8
Winamp 2.6.1

*Note:
Regardless of encoding software used, please make sure your settings are not accidentally defaulted to Real 9.
